When you travel to a beautiful destination you don’t want to bother and think about cooking at all. So what most of us do we trust our food and nutrition into the restaurants hands. But does it mean we will eat healthy and nutritious food? In some places the answer is yes and I will tell you about our experience in Bali when after the trip none of us wanted to cook. You will hardly believe you could eat raw food for a month, right? We had the same idea before this trip too. But now I found places where I can get as healthy as back home and that is so important for you if you are an active traveler.
I am not a raw food diet eater, but I have always wanted to try those fully raw restaurants. I wondered the first time we ordered pizza how can they make it raw. But I have realised I still need to learn a lot about food. You can find delicious ordinary food and option you have never heard of.
Sayuri Healing Food
This place was our favourite and it will be yours too. We came there everyday almost for a week, we had to try all what they have! It’s a cozy spot with many events (yoga classes, food courses and etc.). You will find it as a perfect place for light, but filling lunch as they have a different day meal every day or a lovely evening place for dinner and dessert which is a must here!
I have to say I haven’t imagined there is a raw cheese and it tastes like a real one (or even better I have to say honestly). You will be surprised how many raw food options you can see as a regular meals. You can oder lasagna, falafels, rolls, noodles, even waffles and it all will be so elegantly made.
Seeds of Life
It was the fist raw restaurant we tried and we didn’t want to leave this place. We ate bowl filled with quinoa, salads, kimchi, olives, coconut, spirulina paste and seaweed roll, and we also ate lasagna which became our favourite raw dish at the time!
I am a huge fan of kombucha – a slightly fermented tea muchroom, but you probably already know that from post about Chiang Mai. So imagine how my jaws dropped down when I walked into the room and all shelves were pilled up with kombucha jars. All kinds and types were there and you could easy choose the one you wanted to try the most.
You can also find kombucha to buy in bottles or drink at the restaurant at ‘Sayuri Healing Food’ restaurant. How lovely are these glass bottles? I said I could easily give it as a gift: it’s nice, delicious, healthy and you can use the bottle afterwards.
Or take a raw coffee bomb which is also healthy. Hard to believe it when you look at the picture, right? But the cream is made from coconut and it’s topped with the cacao nibs.
Somewhere in Streets of Ubud
Talking about drinks the best one we found was the juice of dragon fruit and soursop mix. We enjoyed it so much we simply had to go back there every day!
Also Justinas most favourite mango juice is a good treat on a hot day too!
Ashana Hotel Restaurant
If you want something special you should try organic Pack Choy juices at Ashana Hotel restaurant. It has exceptional taste and is not only naturally produced, but it also has many benefits for your health!
Food on the go!
We love to have snacks for our daily trips and I know it is essential to have a healthy option otherwise your eyes will search for any sweets they can find. You can sweeten your stomach with fruits from the market or try raw power balls! It tastes like a chocolate, but it doesn’t harm for your body. You can find these and other goodies at ‘Bali Buda‘.
Another great snack you’ll find in most the shops is Bali nuts. They are grown in Bali and has various flavours. It’s not raw, but as I started to talk about snacks on the go it’s hard not to mention these paradise island snack. Go and give it a try and you’ll take it with you back home!
The hardest part about food is that you need to travel back to the same destination to enjoy those favours again. We know we will go to Bali for it’s raw food, will you?
